A waterfront home we designed was recently completed on the shores of Priest Lake in the Selkirk Mountains of North Idaho. Our client wanted a “mountain rustic timber-framed Arts & Crafts style home.”

A steel bandshell designed by Hendricks Architecture was recently completed in Sandpoint’s Farmin Park. Sandpoint Rotary asked us to work with Parks and Recreation director Kim Woodruff to design a replacement option for the park’s bandstand roof.

Every summer I take the family on a camping trip. Last summer we stayed in the State of Idaho. We made a counter clockwise route from Sandpoint to Stanley, and back through Missoula, Montana. We were also able to visit a ghost town on the way, and see some rustic building techniques, maybe a little too rustic for some.

Inland Northwest skiers & snowboarders got an early treat this year when Schweitzer Mountain Resort opened the weekend before Thanksgiving.

We are designing a rustic mountain chapel for a family in conjunction with the design of their custom mountain home. Tucked in a quiet corner of their property in the woods, it will be a place for them to escape the usual distractions and pray quietly, either alone or in a small group.

Mountainside at Schweitzer, a new residential development, is starting to take shape at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort, just in time for the start of the ski season. Mountainside at Schweitzer is located just above the base of the Basin Express Quad and the Selkirk Lodge, close enough to the slopes that calling it ski-in/ski-out is almost redundant.

One of the primary challenges of winter construction in the mountains is timing and scheduling. If you build in the mountains, limiting the amount of time of winter construction is a common goal. While it is not the ideal situation, building construction can still be done outside in the winter, even in areas with freezing temperatures and lots of snow.

Remodeling and improving existing homes has taken on a new importance as the practice of superficial makeovers and "flipping" homes has all but disappeared for the time being. We have received many more inquiries on remodels and additions lately. People are choosing to remodel for a number of reasons:

I love summers in Sandpoint. The weather is great, the lakes are warm, and the local events calendar is jam packed with enough festivities to keep everybody busy and active. One of my favorite activities in the summer is mountain biking, and I feel lucky to live in a place that has so much great riding. There is a great variety of mountain bike trails here, and a healthy population of mountain bike enthusiasts to enjoy them.

Sandpoint, Idaho is a relatively new community, at least in terms of being known as a resort area. It is located on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, the biggest lake in the Northwest, before it becomes the Pend Oreille River. Homes and properties surrounding the lake are just starting to be bought and turned into more upscale luxury homes.
